Ca.1800 Pierre Joseph Redouté Hans Colored Engraving Histoire des Plantes, Oak Frame.
For your consideration is this amazing antique engraving of a crataegus torminalis (wild service tree).
This has nice color and spectacular detail. This is from the french Histoire des Plantes and Grasses. The back is marked with the following ‘This print is an original page from Jean Paul Redoute’s (this is evidently an erroneous attempt at the actual artists/botanists name Pierre Joseph Redouté) L Histoire des Plantes published in Paris, 1789-1810’. I have not had this art authenticated, though I purchased it as original and haven’t seen anything to convince me otherwise.
This is framed in wood and glass. The frame measures about 17.5” high and about 13.75” in width. There is a wire hanger at the back.
The condition is good, with nicks and finish wear to the frame and one spot of discoloring noted on the print.
